Simoun

Yes, I know, I know – I lied. It turns out that it took me even more time to write this than the previous Simonu entry but I am inclined to blame the heat which had a very bad effect on me, epsecially combined with my general laziness. But this episode of Simoun is one of the best which spurred me to action once the heat had subsided despite my recent obsession with Higurashi no Naku Koro ni which made me lose quite a lot of tiem debating its mysteries. Anyway, if someone is still watching Simoun but wonders whether to continue depsite not liking it that much and does not like episode eight my advice woudl be to stop watching. I really doubt the series can get much better than this, although I would be ecstatic if it does. (more…)

Ten days without any mew entries, I feel a bit guilty but I am so much behind the aired Simoun episodes anyway. Not that this should be an excuse for my laziness. I hope the next entry will come more quickly because the next episode is simply awesome. This one is an important setup episode, although it suffers from having too little Aaeru and Rimone. (more…)

Seems that I like posting new Simoun entries on Wednesday nights. Too bad I have been too lazy and football crazy to do the same with shows whose episodes are actually being subbed on a weekly basis. No battles in this episode, just more team building for Choir Tempest – you know relationships, angst and so on, plus the thing what a lot of us have been waiting for – more yuri action. (more…)

Shocking, isn’t it? Less than a week after the previous Simoun entry here comes a new one. I hope it’s not too late for this series to get the recognition it deserves and with the change in its fansubbing status this might just happened. If not, we, the people with a refined taste will enjoy it anyway, so it’s no big deal. (more…)

Quite a lot of time has passed since the last Simoun entry, I wonder whether anyone who is not following the raws is still remembering about this series. Thankfully a new fansub group named Simoun fans was formed so the series subbing was resumed. And it’s still as good as the previous episodes, though in episode four the emphasis is on world-building which might drive some people away. (more…)

Three weeks had passed since my last Simoun entry and having watched the raw of this episode and read a few summaries, I thought I might not like it that much when I finally watch the fansubbed version. Wrong! I really enjoyed it.

In short in could be described as a great setup episode, which gives the viewers a lot of information about the world and the characters. No action to speak of but since I have watched the raws of all available episodes I can say that if someone is just looking for action, this is probably not exactly the best choice since the battles are relatively rare. I have to say this approach – not many action scenes but when they come they are awesome, all female elite group training for battles and the whole atmosphere remind me of Gunslinger Girl. But Simoun's not a rip-off in any way, it seems that a great effort has been made to make it a real Science-Fiction series, unlike the common pseudo-Science-Fiction shows which are quite superficial. (more…)

When talking about second episodes probably the most often asked question is how they compare to the first efforts. Well, not surprisingly Simoun's second episode is not as good as the first one. It's mostly setup but I love setup when it's handled right (refer to exhibit number one – random Bee Train series) and that's exactly we have here. (more…)
